Congratulations to the Clambake Committee, which is made up of Parents from our Scout troop, for successfully hosting the Clambake this year. It is the Scout group’s main fundraiser and is held annually on the evening of the Parish Fete.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our supporters of this event. We had a different format this year and even in these challenging times the night was well attended and all your support was appreciated. We were also delighted to welcome the new Rector, Bruce and his wife Samantha to the event.
Firstly, thank you to the Parish for their support with this event and for all the advice and encouragement received from numerous members of the community.
Thank you to the band ‘Stepaside’, who provided live entertainment on the night and were the catalyst for the move indoors and the different format. Secondly, as well as the usual delicious seafood chowder supplied courtesy of the Guinea Pig Restaurant, we had a curry supper sponsored by the Bombay Pantry, thank you both.
Thank you to Michael Stokes of St. Patrick’s Dramatic Society for his assistance in providing the lighting gear and helping to set it up in the hall. It was amazing the difference that lighting and a disco ball can make!
Many local businesses donated to our raffle: O’Briens Wines, EuroSpar, Cavestons, Wine Buff Voucher, Benitos , New Lisa life, Scouting Ireland , Dispensary in Dalkey, Cabello hair salon, Doyle Butchers, Mirella gift shop, Kavanaghs butchers , Butlers Pantry, Clarins and SFfitnesscamps . We greatly appreciate their support. We also had a few more prizes donated by parents themselves, which was appreciated also. I hope I have mentioned everyone!
Finally, thank you to the small army of parents who turn out to help set up, clear up, and keep it all going on the night. Without all this generous support we would not have such a great night and gain an impressive fundraising result, in particular in these economic times. All monies raised go towards equipment and other expenses for the troop.
Dalkey Sea Scouts is a part of Scouting Ireland which is a member of the World Organisation of the scouting movement (WOSM). Modern scouting is all about getting out there and enjoying developing new skills such as sailing, swimming, hiking and leadership. Currently our troop has a membership of 110 Scouts and 30 Leaders and we are based in the Northover Hall. All our boating activities are based out of BullochHarbour and we have received prizes in the Scout Liffey Descent, Canoe Sprints, Triathlon and we did very well in the Junior Liffey Descent which is an open competition of a higher standard.
The Scouts are also involved in many community based projects including running the burger stand on the day of the Fete which sold 200 burgers and 144 hot dogs!
Well done to everyone involved.
Yours in scouting,
